Lummi

The Lummi, also known as Lhaq’temish meaning “people of the sea”, live in western Washington.  Salmon fishing was a large part of their lives, leading to the development of a technique called “reef netting”.  This technique allowed large quantities of fish to be taken in from saltwater.  Curtis created two (2) photogravure plates during his visits with the Lummi tribe and only one (1) remains available to collectors today.
