Tolowa

The Tolowa Tribe is located in the extreme northwest corner of California and had close ties with the people along the Oregon coast and in the Rogue River Valley. While their territory included miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean, the Tolowa were known as the People of the Smith River. Curtis created a total of nine (9) copper photogravure plates from his visits with the Tolowa, and seven (7) remain available to collectors today. The other two plates were donated to the Museum of the American Indian.
