The Curtis Gallery is pleased to offer a very limited quantity of Volume and Portfolio restrikes. Each photogravure in this collection was struck from the copper plate on classic gravure paper using the same sepia ink tones seen in The North American Indian. In 1906, Curtis was commissioned to publish 500 complete sets of his master work but only made it to 272 before running out of funds. In 1970, when the copper plates were discovered at the Charles E. Lauriat rare bookstore in Boston, it became a goal to complete the remaining 228 sets. While this goal was not achieved, the photogravure prints created for this project are now available for purchase.
