Diomede

The Diomede band of Alaskan Eskimo lived on Little Diomede Island, in the middle of the Bering Sea between western Alaska and eastern Russia. Families lived together in single dwellings made of stone, whale jaw, wood, earth and sod. Curtis created a total of eleven (11) copper photogravure plates during his visits with the Diomede and eleven (11) remain available to collectors today.
