The Kutenai today live in southeastern British Columbia, Idaho, and Montana. The tribe is thought to be descended from an ancient Blackfeet group that moved West from the Great Plains to the Kootenay River. Curtis created a total of twenty-two (22) copper photogravure plates during his visits with the Kutenai and eighteen (18) remain available to collectors today.
