The Umatilla tribe are native to the Columbia Plateau region. Today, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation consists of members of the Umatilla, Cayuse and Walla Walla tribes. Curtis created a total of eight (8) copper photogravure plates during his visits with the Umatilla and seven (7) remain available to collectors today.
