The Tohono O’odham, also referred to as the Papago, are a tribe who primarily live in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and northern Mexico. In fact, Tohono O’odham means “Desert People.” Curtis created a total of thirteen (13) copper photogravure plates from his visits with the Papago and nine (9) remain available to collectors today.
