The Mandan lived in the Great Plains, primarily in North Dakota, where they still reside on Fort Berthold Reservation. The Mandan were great traders, focusing mostly on food trading but also trading for horses and other trade goods. Curtis created a total of twenty (20) copper photogravure plates during his visits with the Mandan and five (5) remain available to collectors today.
