The Karok

The Karok, meaning “upriver,” are a Northwestern California tribe from Humboldt and Siskiyou counties and is one of the largest tribes in California. Karok men were hunters and fishermen while Karok women gathered acorns and ground them into meal to make bread and soups. Curtis created a total of six (6) photogravure plates from his visits with the Karok and all six (6) are available to collectors today.
